A. Dr. Maxwell advises that although it may be okay to administer a small amount of over-the-counter antihistamines for occasional itchiness (dosage should be based on the weight of the dog) clients should exercise extreme caution and be sure that the itchiness is not being caused by a more serious skin allergy.
